We can assist.
Since Metalcraft Industries sells so many different sized & weighted items, it can sometimes be an issue for our
website shipping calculator to be accurate. Often closely identifying how we package your items in what size cartons, can lead to shipping costs on multiple item purchases that may be higher than they need to be.
If you think the freight charge is in question, please let us know so that we can review and possibly provide a closer estimate with the approximate shipping cost.
We really do not know until the items ship what the best packing and suitable carton arrangement will be, but our approximate by hand calculations are usually quite close to what the actual costs end up being.
Our shipping department is very efficient at packing your order the best possible way.
Metalcraft will never sacrifice the integrity of your products and force-fit so they fit in one box.
Recently we have seen UPS and FED EX adding special rates to items considered to be over length or excessive girth. We see a lot of our items fall into these excessive/special types of categories and we thought it may be a good time to remind our customers that we will work with you to determine the best way to ship the items you are requesting.
We often suggest increasing the quantity since more of the item will usually fit inside the box, especially when it comes to large aluminum. We take extra care to add packing to the box and often there is room for additional pieces to spread the cost of the freight out over more than the single item ordered.
FED EX and UPS as you may know have been using dimensional weight rather than the actual weight of an item, so when the dimensional weight of a box (the measurements L x W x H) exceed the actual weight of the box, you are charged by the dimensions of the box rather than the weight of it.
As you can guess an aluminum 24” x 36” in .040 thickness may be gently packed into a 39” x 26” x 4” box (29.179 pounds) vs the 3.5 pounds of actual aluminum weight + the 5 pound box and protective packaging (a total of 8.5 pounds) are actually charged by dimensional weight. The pricing goes up only when the actual weight of the packaged items exceed the dimensional weight, so adding a few more pieces to the box will not change the dimensional weight.
The length of the items we sell are also playing a role in the shipping charges…we actually have begun selling a 94” length pole rather than the 96” length, since the packaging was creating an over the excessive length measurement and adding an additional $80.00++ to each box that contained a 96” pole.
Metalcraft continues to be your innovator in creative solutions for your sign needs; we will always work with you to find the best way to ship your items so they arrive undamaged and in the same condition when they left our hands.
